Itchy Humans

There is a woman in the coffee shop who has scratched at least four different parts of her body in as many minutes. She is flirting with the man beside her and I wonder if he noticed that she keeps scratching herself. Maybe she has lice, but I didn’t think adults got lice unless they were in a prison camp. I don’t think it’s fleas because her clothes don’t have any pet hair on them. He’s stopped talking to her so maybe he finally figured out that she has some kind of condition. Now I can’t stop noticing other people scratching and touching themselves. The two Chinese women beside me are prime examples. They are speaking nothing but Chinese and one of them is very emotive with her hands, and she seems obsessed with fluffing her hair. Her friend seems to have picked up on this and has started unconsciously fluffing her hair as well. Maybe they are...

Happy couples – blech

By on Jul 15, 2014 in Blog Posts | 0 comments

There is a couple that frequents my coffee shop that is always smiling. Always. When one of them gets up to fetch something, the other follows with their eyes and grins stupidly until they return. It’s unsettling. I think they must be on drugs. No two people are ever that happy all the time. It’s unnatural. I’m pretty sure it’s marijuana because they also move slowly and seem really interested in everything. They also look around the room and point a lot. That’s something people who are high on pot do. These people, bless their souls, deserve all of the happiness in the world, but I wish they would have an argument. They are in their late 30s or early 40s, so surely there is something they would disagree on. I want to go over and start an argument between them, but I think they would probably agree to disagree and then hold hands about...

How to Setup Your Company Exchange Server on an Android Phone

By on May 21, 2014 in Android, Blog Posts | 0 comments

Last December I wrote an article detailing how to setup your company Exchange server on a Windows phone. Recently, the same company needed to setup their corporate Email and calendars on some Android phones. I am happy to report that it’s much easier to setup on Android than Windows. Setting up Exchange in Android is easy! The first step is to make sure your Exchange server is serving up at http://server/exchange internally because you’ll probably want to be able to access that remotely for testing purposes. Assuming that’s already working, the next thing to do is allow it through your firewall by forwarding ports 80 and 443 to your Exchange server. Next, on your Android phone, open your corporate Email app. In stock Android 4.4.x it’s just called “Email”. Enter the Email address and anything for the password, then tap “Manual setup”....

Assassin’s Creed: Play-by-play Commentary

By on Apr 13, 2014 in Blog Posts, Games | 0 comments

My girlfriend Erin loves Assassin’s Creed. I don’t know why – it looks really repetitive to me – so I’ll write a play-by-play in the hopes that I’ll understand it better and it will bring us closer together. Someone told Erin to go kill some people because he was busy, so she did. She had three minutes and got them all killed in about half that time. Some informant guy told her to get close to some guy by blending in with a group of scholars. Erin is now climbing roofs and stabbing people in the neck. I don’t know what this has to do with “blending in with a group of scholars.” Someone is crying out for help, but Erin has ignored him and is climbing a wall. She just killed another guy for no apparent reason. Erin just threw a knife at a guy, but I don’t know why. She is really violent and I’m questioning my judgement....

Developing with Bigcommerce: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

Note: This article was originally posted to the new defunct Ecommerce-platforms.com back in May 2013. It got a lot of attention and Bigcommerce reached out to review some of the issues I presented. I’ve added an update to the bottom of the article as well.Six years of experience in ecommerce has taught me one thing: no platform is perfect. They all have pros and cons and often what separates the best from the competition is a handful of features and customer service. I’ve come to accept that I’ll never find the perfect solution without building it myself and let’s face it, ain’t nobody got time for that.I recently had a project come up and spent a lot of time testing different platforms to find one that could handle digital products the best. For various reasons I settled on Bigcommerce and began building out the store. I knew from reading the Ultimate Bigcommerce review that I...
